Licencing your Camper Trailer
Licencing your Camper Trailer we at Southern Cross Camper Trailers licence your camper trailer into your name.
Licencing your Camper Trailer yourself can be an absolute mine field unless you are completely aware of the plethora of Legislation that covers this. And the Legislation in WA is more stringent than other States. In addition, there is the time and cost involved. You either have to wait in a queue (hours on a busy day) or make an appointment which (again, if they are busy) might be days away. You have to pay for the inspection in advance and if you do not pass, and have to return for re-inspection, you pay again.
One thing you can tick off your list is licencing your trailer. Southern Cross Camper Trailers takes your camper trailer to the licencing authorities who inspect it for road worthiness and make sure it complies with all Australian Standards. After a tick of approval we then licence your new camper trailer into your name. Licencing your camper trailer or any vehicle can be a vexing, time consuming duty for anyone, so have a look at our checklist based on our experience of licencing trailers.
As mentioned before Southern Cross Camper Trailers licence your camper trailer into your name, but what are the Inspectors at Licencing looking for before they pass your camper trailer for licencing?
- Hitches – are they correct for the size and weight of the trailer?
- Trailer Plugs - are they correctly wired and do all the road lights work?
- Lights – do you have all the correct lights? WA regulations are different!
- Reflectors – do you have all the necessary reflectors and are they correctly spaced?
- Electrical Installations - are they safely wired and insulated?
- Chains – are they the correct weight and are they appropriately stamped?
- Brakes - are they correctly wired and DO THEY WORK?
- Hand Brakes – are they easy to use and DO THEY WORK?
- Tyres - are they the correct size and do they match?
- Wheel nuts – have they been correctly torqued?
- Wheel Bearings – are they serviceable and not loose?
- Nuts and bolts – are they tight, appropriately washered and the correct length of shank and thread?
- Wiring – is all wiring properly secured, insulated and protected?
- Welding – is all welding done correctly and not just tacked?
- Weight – do you have the appropriate weighbridge cert and does it match the plate?
- Seals – are all seals contained and not hanging loose?
- Gas appliances – are all gas appliances installed correctly and certified with the gasfitter’s badge?
If the Inspectors find any fault with any of these items you are sent away to attend to the fault and return when it is rectified for another inspection ( and another inspection fee!). As well as all that wasted time involved! Luckily, Denis, one of the owners (also known as Mr Picky or Mr Pedantic) is even more particular than the inspectors!!
